6th Painting -- Garden Pond
Well, I'm not really happy with this painting, but decided to post it in the sake of progress (or rather, regression). Even though I don't like how this turned out, I'm definitely learning more.
This was done using acrylics and some techniques I learned from my last painting with oils.
While this picture doesn't look all that interesting or in anyway life like, the application of the paint through blending and shading was done in the way one (or at least the way I) uses oils. I wasn't able to get the effects previously with acrylics and that's what had spawned the switch to oils. I decided to have a go with the acrylics again because I was short on time and wanted to get painting out. I've learned that painting with oils is much more time consuming than with acrylics. This is mostly due to the clean up and the having to use turpentine to break down the oils enough to remove them. Where as acrylics are completely water soluble, and only hot water and soap are necessary.
For me, this painting brings me a step closer to understanding one of the most difficult problems with painting, depth. While, I'm not a fan of landscape painting, it does help to begin programing my brain to the way real life is layered upon its self.
