3rd Painting -- "A Nude Nude"

Nude2.jpg

(done on cardboard)

Again, wanting to grasp shadows, I decided I wanted to attempt a nude painting. The body offers so many different levels of shading. This was a good find because it covered only the body and not the head. I haven't quite got painting faces down just yet.

2nd Painting "Man in a Yellow Hat"

This painting was painted from a picture I found on the internet. I was looking for something that would make good use of shadows. It seemed simple enough, without a lot of detail.

Painting Again For The First Time

This painting was intended to be a large spiral staircase with 3 perspectives. If you don't see it, you're not the only one. The idea was that you could be the observer from 3 different levels, however, as the observer, you don't often realize that YOU are also being observed. It was this I was trying to capture.

Hey, it's my first painting.

Been Gone A While

Yea, I've been gone quite a while. In that time I've had a lot of activity on my blog from a post that I wrote on Home Work. I've kept up with the comments but haven't made any new posts. Although, when visiting my site, I hate the fact that there is no content on the page, as I haven't written anything in months. I have a lot of things to say, I just don't feel I've had the inter-monologue to produce any new posts.
Recently I've taken up painting, something I never thought I'd have had an interest in. However, during my trip to Amsterdam, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Vincent van Gogh Museum. This is something that I think has changed my life. I never thought I had an ability to be an artist. I could never draw, paint, or express myself in that way. Although, the affect the museum had on me has changed my thoughts. A couple years ago I had made an attempt to paint and it wasn't at all what I expected. My painting mimicked something a child would produce. I gave it up after only one painting. However, it was that experience combined with seeing first hand the brush strokes of a man almost 140 years ago that would change my idea of myself and my possible talent as an artist. I realized, as childish as my first painting may have been, it was done so, without any training or understanding of how or what to paint. When I came home, I dug out the old painting and examined it closer. I realized that I needed to give it another go. As of today, I've painted 3 paintings (not including my first a few years ago). I've decided to begin posting them here as an attempt to remain part of the blogosphere. While I may not write the words that evade me, I'll attempt to paint them. I'll attempt to learn what it means to be an artist, what it means to be a painter....at this point, whether I succeed or not it isn't important, it's the thrill and relaxation of being creative. Any comments or critique is welcomed.
