An 802.11b Nightmare

I've spent the last 20 hours (almost continuously) trying to get a pcmcia 802.11b adapter working under linux. It's just not working. I've gone through 3 different cards and just can't get it to pick it up. I also decided that I'd try to go from the fedora beta install that I'd been using to Fedora ver. 1 which is Redhat's official release. This caused even more problems. From a clean install my package manager of choice, YUM, would not work and was erroring out. After installing and reinstalling it about 5 times, it finally began working. I then tried to get my Instant Messaging program installed and that went as well as the wireless card. Man, I tell you what.....I'm trying to learn the ways of the Linux, but it's just not very friendly. I'd write more but my sadomasocistic behavior requires more.

Most Linux distros are notorious for craptacular support of various 802.11 gear. As for the IM app, I use Debian because I rarely have any trouble with apt-get packages. Although, I still have not been able to get Webmin working from an apt-get install. The only way I can seem to get Webmin to work on Debian is by compiling it from source. Major PitA (pain in the ass).
