The Matrix: Retarded

FADE IN:

INT. MOVIE THEATER -- EVENING

10:30 last night I sat in a digital movie theatre in Glendale, Arizona awaiting an experience I thought I'd never forget; The Matrix: Reloaded was opening and I was about to see it.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. MOVIE THEATER -- LATER

One hour later I was fighting to keep my head up and trying to follow the extremely dull and never ending useless story lines. What was going on here? Why was I falling asleep in the MATRIX? What happened?
I'll tell you what happened. I wasted 2 1/2 hours of my life that I could not get back. While some of the technology in the movie was entertaining, most was overused and abused. Ever since Hollywood learned to add actors that do not exist and therefore do not receive a paycheck, they have over-saturated all of their movies with scenes that contain tens, hundreds, and in some case thousands of people that don't exist. The extra people added don't push the storyline anywhere, rather they seem to be more of an annoyance. The first Matrix pushed the limits of what was the norm in the special effects industry. Would it not stand to reason that if they did it once that there intention would be do it again? The only limit they pushed in reloaded was boredom.

Unlike you. I loved the movie. I think I've figured out why some people loved it and others didn't. There are those that love action movies. The one thing that kills an action movie, to an action movie lover, is a thick plot laden with unnecessary dialogue. Then there are those that like deep plot movies that aren't interrupted by unnecessary fight scenes that serve no other purpose other than to show off their technological prowess.

The Matrix was both of these movies. So, for those of us that like both types of movies, it was great. Fantastic long fight scenes that defied the imagination, coupled with a deep plot and important dialogue. Still, I am surprised the action people didn't like it more. I'd be hard pressed to find another movie with as many amazing fight or flight sequences with CG as realistic as it was. Was it 'perfect'. No, but it came closer then any other movie I'd seen.

Wonko's take. 4 thumbs up.

Ok, I suppose it's my turn to put forth a somewhat mixed review of the film. I can agree with Wonko about his Action vs plot, however, did anyone really expect this movie to not have a plot? The storyline of the first movie in my mind sort of forced the second into a heavy plot ridden film, which I might add, I enjoyed. It provided some closure on things the first left me nagging for, and kept me entertained throughout the piece.

I have only two caveats for the second film.
1. Morpheus' speech and the extended orgy scene following thereafter could have been more tactfully handled, and n my mind was a bit unnecessasary at times. The purposes of what each of those scenes could have been addressed in a lot less time and gratutous sexual nature ;-)
2. While I was impressed with the fight/action sequences, I did notice the CG more than I would have liked to at times. While some of the cinimatics they achieved were incredible, the limits of the technology were clearly present. I guess i am just very demanding about the whole thing considering the movie did raise the bar in that respect, but...if everything is within your grasp, why reach?

To sum it up, I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I agree with jschin in what he says about where the movie fails. I'm not sure I agree with the rating, though I suppose I need to see the movie again.
